In our parish : No Greater Love – Week 3
March 17, 2026
We are now at the halfway point of our Lenten journey. We have completed the four watches of the night in the last two sessions in the events of Holy Thursday.
It is now Good Friday and Jesus is taken at sunrise to Pilate. He is asked by Pilate ‘Is it true you are the Son of God?’ Jesus says ‘I Am’ which means Ever Present,
Eternal God, Yahweh. Many false witnesses are brought in to give false evidence against Jesus. But Pilate sees no guilt in Jesus, he actually says seven times he is
not guilty. Jesus is sent to Herod but is later returned to Pilate. Barabas is released and Pilate then orders that Jesus is to be scourged which almost kills him, but Jesus endures knowing that this has to be. He is then dressed in a robe and crowned with thorns. We were reminded of thorns earlier in the Bible in the story of Abraham and Isaac when a ram was caught in thorns and the story of Adam and Eve when they fell into sin and the consequence was suffering by walking on thorns and thistles. Here is Jesus, then, wearing the very result of sin. That is why Jesus came, to pay the price that Adam and Eve couldn’t pay.
If we offend God today, shouldn’t we pay an infinite punishment? Good news, because of the cross we don’t get punished infinitely. All we have to do is to be sorry
for our sins and thanks be to God’s infinite love He forgives us which should fill us with so much gratitude. It is Good Friday because we are now set free. Thanks to
what Jesus did our suffering has meaning.
So, as we continue our Lenten journey, how has it been for you? See what we can do each day to show how much we love God so we can conquer the three
temptations of Pleasure, Possession and Pride. What is love? It is our faith in action.
The next session of this program is 19 March 2026 at 7pm.
All are welcome.
