In Our Parish : No Greater Love – Week 1

March 3, 2026

A Biblical walk through the Passion of Christ,’ got off with a great start with about 100 people in attendance.
Charbel Raish, the program facilitator began with guiding us through the time of Jesus’ 40 days in the desert when he was tempted three times to choosing his disciples and beginning his ministry and then to the Last Supper.

Charbel then took us to the moment of Christ’s anguish in the Garden of Gethsemane when Jesus was at His weakest moment and the devil comes again to attack him. He prays to His Father for this cup to be taken away but says ‘not my will but your will be done.’ So, we were reminded that we need to be united to God in prayer for us to conquer evil, just as Jesus did.
It was explained then that the devil comes to tempt us in our senses, our intellect and our will, in
Pleasures: things that attract us,
Possession: things that we want
Pride: where we lack humility and want to be like God.
Adam and Eve were tempted in this way in the Garden of Eden. But Jesus undoes this and overcomes in the desert when the devil tempted Him through His senses as well. Charbel invited us to then see that we are in a Spiritual battle which we can only win through Spiritual means which the church invites us to use this Lent and beyond, Fasting, Almsgiving and Prayer. This is what Lent is for, so we can become closer to God.
The next session of this program is Thursday 15 March 2026 at 7pm.
All are welcome.
