In Our Parish | Holy Week & Easter

April 29, 2025

This year, once again we gathered together to celebrate Easter at Holy Family Ingleburn.

Beginning with Palm Sunday vigil mass on Saturday night with a solemn procession into the church with everyone carrying palms to remember Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Father Henry then went around the church blessing everyone’s palms before mass began. Then on Sunday morning the congregation entered the church in a procession carrying palms and singing a psalm.

The Easter Tridium began with Holy Thursday mass where some parishioners
took part in the re-enactment during the proclamation of the Gospel where
Jesus washed the feet of His disciples telling them that He came to serve and
not to be served and asking them and us to do the same.

On Good Friday, we were blessed with good weather, so we were able to make the journey of the Stations of the Cross outdoors around the church, prayerfully reflecting on and following in Jesus’ footsteps to Calvary. At 3pm in the afternoon we again gathered together to remember Jesus’ passion and death on the cross with a liturgy including the reading of Christ’s Passion followed by the Veneration of the Cross and Communion.

On Holy Saturday morning there was much activity cleaning, decorating and preparing the church for the climax of the Easter celebrations, the Easter Vigil.
The night began at 7pm with the congregation assembling outside in the dark for the Blessing of the Fire and entry into the church with Father Henry carrying the Paschal candle and the congregation with candles representing coming from the darkness into the light. During this mass, it was a joy and blessing to welcome nine new members into our faith community, when these men and women received the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation from Father Henry.

A joyful Easter Sunday morning mass then completed all our Parish celebrations. At this mass a beautiful moment occurred before Father Henry began his homily, when he invited the children to come and sit with him. He talked to them and asked them questions about the Gospel and Jesus’ Resurrection. Following mass, a wonderful morning tea was enjoyed by many who stayed to socialise.

All our Easter ceremonies were complimented beautifully by the various Holy Family choirs. Also, every mass and liturgical celebration had an amazing attendance which was a great blessing for our parish.
