On 12th November 2022, the Annual Catechist Mass and awards ceremony was held at St Francis Xavier Cathedral Wollongong, presided by Bishop Brian Mascord, who was assisted by several clergy from the Wollongong Diocese. The Mass was a joyful gathering of catechists with their families and friends and also present were members of the CCD Leadership Team from the Office of Renewal and Evangelisation Wollongong, who organised the event.
The readings chosen for this Mass, St Paul to the Ephesians 4:1-7, 11-13 and the Gospel, John 17:20-26 were very appropriate for this occasion as they had a strong message of encouragement for the vocation of a catechist and those called to evangelise, and the Bishop’s homily reflected this.
At the conclusion of Mass, awards were presented to catechists for many years of dedication including two catechists from Ingleburn parish, who received their Diploma of Catechetics.

Congratulations to Mrs Karen Watson, who received a Diploma of Catechesis and to Mr Heathcliff Pereira, who received a Diploma of Catechesis but was unable to attend the Mass.

Also, an inspiring Husband and Wife team from Thirroul, despite having a disability, received the Bishop’s Citation for 15 years of service and two catechists from the diocese received awards for 30+ years, which was amazing. Afterwards, lunch and a social gathering was enjoyed by all who attended.
