In our Parish | 2022 Sacrament of First Holy Communion
November 29, 2022
The Sacrament of First Holy Communion held at Holy Family Church Ingleburn, was a beautiful occasion. Sixty children from Holy Family school and several State schools in the Parish gathered with their family and friends over two Masses 11am and 1pm on 20th November 2022.
The children and their parents had been preparing for this sacrament during the past four weeks and were very excited to receive the Eucharist for the first time. Mrs Deanne David, Religious Education Coordinator and several teachers from Holy Family school and some Catechist teachers were also in attendance.
In his Homily, Father Henry said that this Sacrament was the ‘greatest of all the sacraments’ and the readings chosen all focussed on the theme of Giving. The first reading from Genesis told of how Abram gave a ‘tenth of everything’ because God had blessed him. The second from St Paul to the Corinthians, spoke of Jesus’ giving of Himself at the Last Supper and the Gospel from Luke, was about how five thousand people were given food to eat and there was plenty for everyone to receive because, as Father Henry said, ‘when we share and give there is always enough, and while at Holy Communion we come to receive Jesus, the Eucharist is
about Giving’.
A beautiful moment occurred at the time of the consecration, when Father Henry invited the children to join him around the altar to witness this special miracle.
The two Masses were also made more joyous with music and singing from the St Peter and Paul Group. At the conclusion of each Mass the children were presented with their certificates and group photos were taken.
